General Functionality

Q: What is SMS messaging in Uplisting?
SMS messaging allows hosts to send and receive short, text-based messages directly to/from guests’ mobile phones, within Uplisting’s Unified Inbox.

Q: Can SMS be used for two-way communication or just one-way broadcasts ?
Two-way communication is supported, provided the host sends the first message.

Q: As a host, where can I send and receive SMS messages?
Hosts can send and receive messages directly in their Unified Inbox. Messages from both parties will show up in the message thread, along with messages sent via other communication channels.

Q: As a guest, where can I send and receive SMS messages?
Guests will be able to receive and reply to host messages directly from their phones.

Q: Can hosts use SMS with all their guests?
Yes, as long as they have the guest’s phone number and consent (region dependent). Phone numbers are:

  • Automatically available for Airbnb and Direct Bookings, as long as provided by the guest
  • When not available:
    • They can be collected by sharing the guest booking link (available in the Summary tab of the guest profile/booking page in Uplisting - (see the image below), or

    • Can be manually added or edited (in the Details tab of the guest profile/booking page within Uplisting - see the image below).

      1. For regions where consent is required (e.g., US), guests need to opt in to receive SMS via the booking form explicitly.

Q: Can SMS be sent and received on mobile?
Yes.

Q: Can hosts message guests via SMS from both desktop and mobile?
Yes. SMS can be sent and received in both the web browser and the Uplisting mobile app.

Q: How can hosts gather guest consent for SMS
In regions where consent is required, the host will not be able to text the guest until they have opted in to receive SMS messages. Hosts will have the option to share the booking form directly from the Unified Inbox thread if consent is required. Guests will be able to share their consent in the booking form, after which hosts will be able to text them.
