Do I Need to List Directly on an OTA First?

How an online travel agency (OTA) connects with Uplisting varies depending on the specific OTA.

The answer to this question depends on the OTA (online travel agency). Please see below what steps must be taken to successfully connect each OTA with Uplisting. In the interest of time during your calls with the Onboarding Team, it's important these steps are completed before your first onboarding call.

🚧

Please note:

It is not essential to fully connect the OTAs to Uplisting right away if you'd prefer to do this with a member of our Onboarding Team – the important thing is to have the accounts/listings setup in advance where necessary.

Airbnb

  • In order to connect an Airbnb account or listing with your Uplisting account, you must first create the account/listing(s) directly on Airbnb.
  • The listing(s) must be live and publicly listed on Airbnb at the time of connection with Uplisting, otherwise the connection will not complete.
  • You can begin the process of creating your Airbnb listing(s) here.

Booking.com

  • As with Airbnb, your account and any listings must first be created directly on Booking.com.
  • Unlike Airbnb, the listings do not have to be live before connecting with Uplisting.
  • To create an account and your listing(s) with Booking.com, please see here.

Vrbo

  • Unlike Airbnb and Booking.com, the Vrbo integration does not require you to have an account or listings already created directly with Vrbo before connecting with Uplisting. From Uplisting, you can "publish" your listings to Vrbo. Further details can be found in our "How to Connect to Vrbo" guide here.

🚧

Please note:

Vrbo have some specific requirements when connecting through a property management system (e.g. Uplisting):

  • Vrbo will no longer process payments. You must process payments through Uplisting (a Stripe account is necessary for this).
  • In Europe: You must have a registered company number and/or a tax ID (e.g. VAT ID in the UK, SIREN in France, CIF in Spain, etc.). Vrbo requires this for regulatory purposes.
  • Instant Book must be enabled on your listing(s).

Google Vacation Rentals

  • Similar to Vrbo, you can "publish" listings to Google Vacation Rentals from your Uplisting account so creating an account or the listing(s) separately isn't necessary before connecting with Uplisting.
  • Payments for Google Vacation Rentals bookings are not processed by Google. Therefore you must have a Stripe account created and connected to Uplisting to use this channel.
  • You must offer your listings as "Instant Book" to be eligible to list on Google Vacation Rentals.

Other Booking Sites

Uplisting connects via API connections with the above 4 channels. If you are currently, or plan to be, listed on any other sites, you may connect these to your Uplisting calendar via an iCal connection.

With iCal-Connected Sites:

  • You must create your account and listing(s) directly with that site. Ensure that the site supports iCal connections (which may be referred to as the ability to "import" and "export" the calendar).
  • iCal connections only sync availabilities between Uplisting and the other channel and nothing else.
    • For example: if you receive a booking or block a date on Uplisting, it will create a corresponding block on the other channel's calendar and vice versa. However, iCal connections do not, for example, share guest information and so automated messaging is not a supported feature for this type of connection.
