General Functionality

Q: What is SMS messaging in Uplisting?
SMS messaging allows hosts to send and receive short, text-based messages directly to/from guests’ mobile phones, within Uplisting’s Unified Inbox.

Q: Can SMS be used for two-way communication or just one-way?
Two-way communication is supported, provided the host sends the first message.

Q: Where can hosts use SMS?
Hosts can use SMS from the Unified Inbox on both desktop and mobile.

Q: Can all guests be contacted via SMS?
Yes, as long as the phone number is available:

  • Automatically from Airbnb or Direct bookings
  • Or manually collected via:
    • Guest link (Summary tab)
    • Direct entry (Details tab)

Q: Can SMS be sent and received on mobile?
Yes.


Message Handling

Q: How do I send an SMS?

  1. Go to the Unified Inbox
  2. Select a guest
  3. Type a message (≤160 characters)
  4. Choose SMS as the send method
  5. Hit Send

Q: What if my message exceeds 160 characters?
You’ll be prompted to shorten it before sending.

Q: What if guests exceed the 160-character limit in replies?
Messages will be combined and displayed fully.

Q: Why use SMS with this limitation?
It’s ideal for urgent, time-sensitive communication.

Q: Can templates be used?
Yes, but they must be manually reviewed and trimmed if needed.

Q: Are links/files/images supported?
No, SMS supports text-only. Use email or OTA for rich content.

Q: Can I see how a message was sent?
Yes, each message is labeled (e.g. “via SMS”).

Q: Will SMS and other messages be in one thread?
Yes, all communications appear in a single conversation thread.

Q: Can I see if an SMS was delivered or read?
Delivery status: Yes (Delivered/Failed).
Read status: Not supported for SMS.
