How Airbnb applies multiple discounts

How Airbnb applies multiple discounts

If you've configured multiple discounts on Airbnb, you may notice that some discounts combine while others don't.
This guide explains the order in which Airbnb applies discounts and why the final price may differ from what you expected.

How Airbnb calculates discounts

Airbnb applies discounts in three stages:

  1. Base price adjustments
  2. Targeted guest discounts
  3. Stay discounts

Each stage is calculated in order, with the discounted price from one stage becoming the starting price for the next.

Step 1: Base price adjustments

These adjustments are applied first to your listing's base price.
Examples include:

  • Non-refundable cancellation policy discount
  • Price adjustments you've set for specific dates

Step 2: Targeted guest discounts

After any base price adjustments have been applied, Airbnb applies eligible guest discounts.
These include:

  • Top-rated guest discount
  • Mobile-only discount

If a booking qualifies for both discounts, they are applied one after the other.

Step 3: Stay discounts

Finally, Airbnb checks whether the reservation qualifies for a stay-based discount.
These include:

  • New listing promotion
  • Custom promotion
  • Weekly discount
  • Monthly discount
  • Early bird discount
  • Last-minute discount

Important: Only one stay discount can be applied to each night of a reservation.
If multiple stay discounts are eligible, Airbnb applies the highest-priority discount and ignores the others.

Example 1

A host has configured:

  • Top-rated guest discount (15%)
  • Mobile-only discount (10%)
  • Weekly discount (10%)
  • Early bird discount (5%)

A top-rated guest books a 2-night stay on the Airbnb mobile app far enough in advance to qualify for the early bird discount.
The discounts are applied as follows:

  1. Base price: $100
  2. Top-rated guest discount → $85
  3. Mobile-only discount → $76.50
  4. Weekly discount does not apply because the stay is only two nights.
  5. Early bird discount is applied → Final nightly price: $72.68

In this example, the weekly discount is ignored because the booking doesn't meet its minimum stay requirement.

Example 2

A host has configured:

  • Non-refundable cancellation policy discount (10%)
  • Top-rated guest discount (15%)
  • Mobile-only discount (10%)
  • Weekly discount (10%)
  • Last-minute discount (5%)

A top-rated guest books a 7-night stay on desktop using the non-refundable cancellation policy at the last minute.
The discounts are applied as follows:

  1. Base price: $100
  2. Non-refundable cancellation policy discount → $90
  3. Top-rated guest discount → $76.50
  4. Mobile-only discount does not apply because the booking wasn't made on a mobile device.
  5. Both the weekly and last-minute discounts are eligible, but Airbnb only applies the weekly discount, as it has higher priority.
  6. Final nightly price: $68.85

Discount priority

When multiple stay discounts qualify for the same reservation, Airbnb uses the following priority order:

Priority

Discount

1

New listing promotion

2

Custom promotion

3

Weekly discount

4

Monthly discount

5

Early bird discount

6

Last-minute discount

Only the highest-priority eligible stay discount is applied for each night.

Frequently asked questions

Q. Can multiple discounts stack together?

Yes, but only in certain cases.

  • Base price adjustments can be combined with targeted guest discounts.
  • Targeted guest discounts can stack with each other if the guest is eligible.
  • Only one stay discount can apply to each night of a booking.

Q. Why wasn't my weekly discount applied?

The booking may not have met the minimum stay requirement, or another higher-priority stay discount was eligible for the same reservation.

Q. Why didn't the mobile-only discount apply?

The mobile-only discount is only available for bookings made through the Airbnb mobile app. If the reservation was made on desktop, it won't be applied.

Note: Discount calculations and eligibility are determined by Airbnb. Uplisting syncs pricing to Airbnb, but the application of Airbnb promotions and discount stacking/logic follows Airbnb's pricing rules.

Results may vary depending on the discounts configured and the details of the reservation.
